【Meditative SHODO Workshop】
SHODO is the way of Japanese calligraphy.
At SAKURA Studio, step into the peaceful and elegant world of SHODO, Japanese brush calligraphy.
This 90-minute cultural experience welcomes both beginners and calligraphy lovers.
1. Introduction to SHODO Tools（10 min）
We begin with an introduction to the essential tools of SHODO:
– Brush (筆 fude)
– Ink (墨 sumi)
– Inkstone (硯 suzuri)
– Japanese paper (半紙 hanshi)
– Paperweight (文鎮 bunchin)
2. Choose Your Kanji or Phrase（5 min）
Choose a meaningful word you’d like to write—such as:
– 「桜」(sakura – cherry blossom)
– 「愛」(ai – love)
– 「侍」(samurai – samurai)
3. Brush Holding & Posture（5 min）
Learn how to hold the brush correctly and sit in a relaxed posture.
This foundation helps create elegant strokes and calm focus.
4. Basic Stroke Practice（15 min）
Practice basic strokes—dots, lines, curves—on practice paper.
Feel the gentle rhythm and breathing of SHODO through each brush movement.
5. Live Demonstration by Calligrapher（10 min）
Watch as a professional calligrapher writes your chosen word in front of you.
Observe the balance, flow, and artistry of each stroke.
6. Practice Your Word（20 min）
Now try writing your word several times with gentle guidance from the instructor.
Feel free to ask questions as you go.
7. Final Artwork （10 min）
Create your final work on high-quality Japanese paper—or optionally on a handcrafted fan.
Take home your personal masterpiece as a memory of your time in Japan.
