【Akemiの紹介】
大学卒業後、某大手企業に入社するも一年半で退職し、カナダへ渡航して語学力を磨く。帰国後は外資系の市場調査会社に勤務し、欧米人の同僚と働く中で国際感覚を養う。
その後、幼い頃からの夢であったオリンピック選手への憧れを胸に、東京オリンピック・パラリンピック組織委員会に所属。大会終了後は長年暮らした東京を離れ、沖縄へ移住し、地域おこしという新たな分野に挑戦。現在は、これまで培った国際的な視野と沖縄での地域活動を融合させ、地域経済の発展に取り組んでいる。

Introduction about Akemi

After graduating from university, I joined a major Japanese company but left after a year and a half to study abroad in Canada, where I developed strong language skills. Upon returning to Japan, I worked for an international marketing research firm, gaining valuable experience in a global environment alongside colleagues from Europe and North America.
Later, driven by my lifelong passion for the Olympic Games, I joined The Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Following the Games, I relocated from Tokyo to Okinawa to take on a new challenge in regional revitalization.
Today, I am committed to combining my international perspective with local initiatives in Okinawa to contribute to sustainable economic development.

【沖縄と世界をつなぐ理由】
私は沖縄生まれではありませんが、20年ほど前から毎年沖縄を訪れるうちに、その魅力に惹かれていきました。東京では国際的な環境の中でマーケティングリサーチの仕事をしていましたが、2021年の東京オリンピックでの役目を終えた時、「このまま東京に住み続けるのだろうか」と自問しました。そして人生は一度きりだと考え、沖縄への移住を決意しました。

沖縄の魅力は、美しい海や青い空だけではありません。最も心を打たれたのは、人の温かさです。沖縄に降り立つと、心が和むのを感じます。それは街全体に根づく「ゆいまーる（助け合い）」の精神のおかげです。沖縄の人々は自然体で、のんびりとしながらも互いを思いやり生きています。その姿勢に、人としての大きな魅力を感じました。

一方で、沖縄は豊かな自然や文化、人の良さを持ちながらも、日本の中で最低賃金や学力水準の低さが課題とされています。発展が遅れている部分もあり、世界での認知度もまだ十分ではありません。だからこそ、沖縄の人々のたくましさや、支え合いながら生きる姿を世界に届けたいと思いました。

私はこれまでの留学経験や東京での国際的な仕事を通じて、語学力や異文化理解を培ってきました。その視点から見た沖縄の魅力を、外の世界につなげて発信していくことこそ、自分にできる役割だと考えています。まだ世界には十分に知られていないこの魅力ある沖縄を、世界へと橋渡しすることが、私の使命です。

Why I Want to Share Okinawan Culture with the World

I was not born in Okinawa, but for more than 20 years I visited the islands regularly, and gradually fell in love with them. While working in Tokyo in the field of marketing research, I was surrounded by an international environment. In 2021, after completing my role with the Tokyo Olympics, I asked myself: “Is Tokyo really where I want to spend the rest of my life?” Realizing that life is only lived once, I decided to move to Okinawa.

The charm of Okinawa is not only its beautiful beaches and blue skies. What touched me most was the warmth of its people. Whenever I arrive in Okinawa, I feel my heart at ease. This comes from the spirit of Yuimaaru—the tradition of helping and supporting one another—that is deeply rooted in the community. Okinawan people live naturally and calmly, with kindness and mutual care. Their way of life itself is deeply inspiring.

At the same time, Okinawa faces challenges. Despite its rich nature, culture, history, and human spirit, the region still struggles with low wages and educational levels compared to other parts of Japan. Internationally, Okinawa is also not as well-known as it deserves to be. That is why I feel a strong mission to share with the world the resilience of Okinawan people and the beauty of their cooperative spirit.

Through my international experiences—both from studying abroad and working in Tokyo—I have developed language skills and cultural awareness that allow me to see Okinawa from a unique perspective. My role, I believe, is to serve as a bridge: to connect Okinawa with the world and to help tell its story. Sharing the true spirit of Okinawa is not only my passion, but also my mission.

【AKEMIが伝える沖縄】
私が伝える沖縄とは、ただ観光地を巡る旅ではありません。もちろんアメリカンビレッジや美しい海も魅力の一つですが、私がご紹介したいのは「観光では触れられない沖縄」です。 たとえば、国頭のやんばる地域では、森の中で山菜を摘み、そこに暮らすおじぃやおばぁから暮らしの知恵や神々の行事について学ぶことができます。そうした体験を通してこそ、本当の沖縄の豊かさが感じられます。 また、沖縄には織物や工芸品など、琉球王国時代からアジア諸国との交易を通じて育まれた文化が数多く残っています。体験を通して、文化歴史に触れていただく。旅の最後には、世界一美しい海でリラックスし、体験したことや感じたことを分かち合う時間を持っていただきたいと思います。 これが、私が世界に伝えたい「本当の沖縄」です。

Okinawa Through Akemi’s Eyes

The Okinawa I want to share is not just about visiting tourist spots. Of course, places like American Village or the beautiful beaches are part of its charm, but what I truly wish to introduce is the Okinawa beyond tourism.
For example, in the Yanbaru forests of Kunigami, you can pick wild vegetables and learn from local elders about their wisdom of daily life and the traditional rituals dedicated to the gods. It is through such experiences that you can truly feel the richness of Okinawa. Okinawa is also home to textiles and crafts that reflect the cultural heritage of the Ryukyu Kingdom, which once flourished through trade with China and other Asian countries. By experiencing these traditions, visitors can connect with Okinawa’s deep history and culture. At the end of the journey, I hope you can relax by the world’s most beautiful sea and take time to share the feelings and insights you have gained.This is the real Okinawa I wish to share with the world.
